Welcome new subscribers! And, old. Welcome, everyone! I’m accidentally perpetually in transition over the past many months so please enjoy this post which is a menagerie of life.
Last week, Theo (the dog, scroll to the bottom for photo!) called me over to the window and when I looked out I saw a person on the ground searching under my vehicle. I went to the door and called out, “Hi, that’s my car. Can I help you with something?” which led to a few minutes of pure ridiculousness. This woman’s cat had crawled under my car and up under the hood and rather than focusing on being happy that I was both available and willing to help, she seemed rather intent on insulting me. She asked me at least six times if it was my car, even after I had the keys in hand. Then, when the jittery energy of the moment (and being accused of grand theft auto? lying? tricking white women into thinking I can save their cats when I can’t?) caused me to take a few extra seconds to remember exactly where the inside handle and under hood latch were her insults continued. Oh, you don’t drive much, huh? You must not do a lot of work on this car huh? It was nonstop. Not a minute too soon, I watched from a little distance as this woman freed her big white and orange cat from between my engine and wiper fluid tank. Before I knew it, after micro-aggressing all over me, the stranger and her cat Butterscotch were gone. In all fairness, the woman had thanked me and called me a lifesaver…after all of the thinly veiled insults.
The next day, I had some wild MS-related experiences that made me question everything I know about life. I often think about how all of the systems of oppression, including housing insecurity, combine with ACES scores and micro-aggressions even when you’re helping, added to having to ask my kid not to play with their Halloween costume sword outside alone because they are Black and people are terrible all come together to make chronic illness thrive like a fairytale beanstalk. Fuck everything. Please & thank you.
I like music. It makes me feel when I’d otherwise be numb. Here’s some (maybe I’ve shared before, but current faves still):
And, my last random thing of the day, this game: The Fuzzies. It’s cute, quick, and very heavy on the giggles. I highly recommend. When I Googled it to find a link it says it went viral on TikTok so maybe everyone already knows about it? But, I found it while doing my standard “My body is failing but a board game will keeping it from hurting my kids too much” search.
a respectful consensual XOXO and thanks for being here

Mmm, thanks for sharing the songs, they soothed my heart today. Have you ever heard Vienna Teng? You might like her (not that I claim to be particularly skilled as a suggestion algorithm, but her songs are similarly heart-soothing to me)! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwj9jxSlZX8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KknieRIBZGs
Aw, Theo!!! Such a very good boy <3 Let's see - the husband is the main meal planner/cooker/heater-upper, but we do order a few meals from a local chef service every week to make things easier, and I usually do the ordering. We have chicken pot pie and some sort of Asian chili/pork/veggie stew thing this week. Plus leftover birthday cake because my birthday was Sunday.
As for random interactions, I've had a lot in the last week, but let's go with a nice one today - a woman was helping an elderly person into the passenger side of a car parked next to me, such that I was waiting for them to be finished before I got into my car. When she noticed me, she still had to fold up a walker and stow it in the car and her face was all pinched and stressed as she apologized to me, and I just said, "Please take your time, there's no rush" and her face just relaxed and we had a very pleasant 15-second conversation about the unseasonably warm weather and her older person's heavy coat that they didn't want to remove. Such a reminder to me that there usually is truly no rush, and a tiny amount of kindness and courtesy goes such a long way to making our world a better place for us all.
